A peek through the window of this tiny new shop, lured me right inside. Nügateau, located at 717 Queen Street West on the south side, just west of Bathurst St., selling eclairs in a wide range of tempting flavours.
The kinds they had on offer when I visited included : Manjeri Chocolate, Cafe Arabica, Tahitian Vanilla, Japanese Matcha, Maple Bacon, Brazilian Coconut, Salted Caramel, Lemon Meringue, Persian Pistachio, Red Raspberry, plus two more that I didn’t get the name of but may have been Chocolate Orange and Banana Cream (based on how they looked). So, that’s a dozen different ones to choose from.
They also add special flavours too, as I see on the Facebook page (linked above) that they also have two additional types right now, in honour of Valentine’s Day this Sunday — a Champagne one that’s filled with Champagne Zèphyr cream with almonds, and a Wild Strawberry-Rose with wild strawberry mousse scented with rose.
Price-wise, they go for $4.50 + tax for “regular” flavours, which were the majority of them, and $5.50 for some Lux ones. When you buy a box of six there is a volume discount.
After picking up a pack of four, I can say with certainty that these pastries are as delicious as they are pretty.
I went for Lemon Meringue, Chocolate, Raspberry and Pistachio. The delicate choux pastry and creamy filling, made for a very nice treat, in deed. They each had lots of rich flavour without being overly sweet.
They were pretty amazing!
And now I want more.
