By coincidence, a bunch of bands we wanted to see all came to Toronto around the same time, so yes, this is the third concert I’ve written about in as many weeks.
On Sunday night we went to see Fitz and the Tantrums, a group of 6 from LA. It was a really fun show and I sort of wish it hadn’t already happened so that I still had it to experience all over again.
Their music is described as “soul-influenced indie pop” and we first fell for their catchy song The Walker last summer, so we bought the album, More Than Just a Dream, and have been playing it a lot. We both love it. It is great high-energy music. I’m a sucker for perfect harmonies and the two lead singers Micheal Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs sound excellent together.
The concert was held at The Music Hall. This is an old theatre that was recently renovated for concerts. I’ve never been before so was curious to see it. There’s a good write-up about its history here, if you’re into old buildings as much as I am.
And now I am really sounding like a broken record, because in recent weeks I’ve not only written about three concerts but have also told you about three of Toronto’s oldest theatres, The Pantages Theatre which opened in 1920, The Runnymede Theatre which opened in 1927, and now this one, The Music Hall which opened in 1919.
So in an effort to avoid becoming repetitive I’ll skip any further chat and get to the photos of the night out …
A sign of our times — Instead of holding up a lighter during a ballad the audience held up their phones …
Confetti cannon! …
Waving goodbye …
We have another concert to go to this coming weekend too, that I’ll be writing about next week. But after that, there is no live music on our foreseeable future so I’ll be moving off the topic for a while. Not that I won’t be scanning the listings for more though, because new music is my boyfriend. Nick doesn’t mind me cheating on him because he loves it as much as I do.
(The other shows we’ve recently been to were St. Vincent, Foxy Shazam.)
Thank you kindly for dropping over. I hope you’re having a good week.
