We were recently treated to a lovely time over at the home of our friends, Kim and Chris. The plan was to have barbecued hot dogs, with the grilling taking place on the rooftop patio of their condo building.
We had a laugh when the concierge rang up to announce that “Miss Loulou and Mr. Nick” had arrived.
We brought some drinks — I thought a bottle of bubbly wine (this one, from Spain) would pair perfectly with hot dogs. Hey, you only live once, and I thought that a late-lunch with friends on a beautiful summer’s afternoon warranted a celebratory beverage!
Nick thought beer was more fitting with this particular meal, so he brought some Guinness as well. Not to say that we are defined by stereotypes, but the ladies went with the bubbles and the guys with the beer.
Living down on ground level ourselves, the view from the rooftop was something Nick and I are not used to, and we spent the first fifteen minutes just looking, pointing out landmarks and places we recognized from above. I’ll state the obvious and say that things looked very different from up there.
Chris is a master of the well prepared hot dog.
After cooking them on the barbecue on the roof, we brought the food back down to their beautiful condo to eat.
↑ I’m quite liking my thrifted bag. That was $4 well spent. ↑
They served some Pomegranate Cider with the meal. I’m a fan of cider but had never tried this stuff, made by Grower’s, who have been making cider on Canada’s west coast since 1927. It’s sweeter than regular cider and makes a nice drink on a hot day.
Amoung the variety of condiments, Chris had cooked a lovely mixture of sweet peppers, onions and sauerkraut, that took this casual meal up a notch to be sure. That was certainly one of the most delicious hot dogs I’ve ever eaten!
Thank you for checking out what we’ve been up to (pun intended). I hope you’re having a great week.
